Welcome to the home of the Heritage Model Railway. We hope you enjoy your stay.
Railway modelling is a great hobby necessitating many skills; creativity, imagination, knowledge of history, electronics, craft methods, geography, and many other subjects.
How much you care to learn about these subjects is up to you. you can have fun with just the basics.
Some modellers enjoy the scenic aspect of the railway, others the operational side. Each complements the other.
Many modellers, like me, enjoy modelling a preserved railway line, maybe for the following reasons.
1. You only need a short stretch of track (but you can have lots of stock!).
2. You are not confined to any particular era, region, or livery.
3. If you want to model a particular real-life preserved line there are plenty to choose from . (I have visited many preserved lines and sometimes it is amazing what can be done with just 1/4 mile of track! )
4. You can happily include foreign rolling stock (if the gauge allows)
It was for all the above reasons that the Heritage Model Railway was created; to bring together in one place modellers of similar interest.
Amongst these pages you will find articles, trackplans, and members layouts; all with a preserved railway theme. The site is still under construction but it is growing fast. Many thanks to all who have contacted me with supportive messages.
If you work on a Heritage Railway or if you have perhaps visited a Heritage line and seen something that would be good to model, why not write a short article, send it to me at michael.honey@orange.fr and I will place it on the site.
NEW FEATURE They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so now on main page 6 we have some photographs of Heritage lines to inspire you. Our first batch are from Freefoto.com but if you have taken any pictures that may be good to model ,send them to us (gif, bmp, or jpeg) at the above e-address and we will place them on the site.
